Parent, Grand Parent / Child Sponsorship

Sponsorship of Parents and Grandparents

Parents and grandparents can be sponsored to immigrate to Canada by citizens and permanent residents of Canada. Approved parents and grandparents under this program are granted permanent residence in Canada and may eventually be eligible to apply for citizenship. Your parents and grandparents are eligible to apply for citizenship once they meet the requirements, and they can benefit from having permanent residence in Canada, including the ability to work, access health care, and complete legal protection.

Sponsors needed to fulfill the following requirements to be qualified for the Parents and Grandparents Program:

  • Be a citizen of Canada, or a permanent resident of Canada, or be registered Indian under the relevant act,
  • Be minimum eighteen years old or more
  • Reside in Canada (during the Interest to Sponsor phase, prospective applicants will be required to furnish proof of status);
  • Surpass the program’s minimum income requirement (if married or in a common-law partnership, the sponsor’s and spouse’s income may be combined) and give the IRCC documentation of your income; additionally!

Sign a contract:

  • To provide for the sponsored financially for 20 years (beginning when they become permanent residents);
  • To reimburse the sponsored for 20 years for any social assistance benefits given to the sponsored person’s dependent family members (if any); and/or, if the sponsor lives in Quebec, an additional undertaking is required.
  • To be eligible for the PGP, applicants must provide notices of assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as evidence that they make the required minimum income.
  • The validity of the undertaking in Sponsorships
  • To support the sponsored person(s) for 20 years after they arrive in Canada, the sponsor and, if applicable, the sponsor’s co-signer must sign a sponsorship undertaking with the government of Canada.

Sponsoring a Dependent Child

Canadian citizens and permanent residents who have adopted or dependent children living abroad can sponsor their immigration to Canada through the Family Class Sponsorship program. Enabling family members who live in different countries to be reunited and live together in Canada is the primary goal of sponsoring dependent children. To be more precise, the program permits permanent residents and citizens of Canada to bring their children to Canada. Adopted or biological, dependent children can be sponsored to live in Canada permanently with their parent(s).

The following requirements must be met to be eligible to sponsor a dependent child:

  • you must be at least eighteen years old;
  • you must be a citizen of Canada, a permanent resident ( if not living in Canada) who intends to return to Canada or a person registered under the Indian Act of Canada;
  • you must be able to support yourself, your dependent children, and your spouse, if applicable;
  • you must be able to prove the parent-child relationship to your child;
  • you must not have a criminal record;
  • you must not have a criminal record facing serious charges, or be in default on an immigration loan
  • or you must not be under investigation by immigration;
  • you must not be receiving income assistance, unless you are disabled.
