Dependent Child Sponsorship

The age at which a child can be considered as being dependent has been reduced to under 19 from under 21. Also, the exception of full-time students have been removed, Children of applicants at the age of 19 or over but still depends on their parents financially and are registered in full-time studies will no longer be considered as a dependent child.

Generally, a child will be regarded as a dependent, without respect to the age, if they depend on their parents for financial support since before the age of 19 due to mental of physical condition. A child who is married or in a common-law relationship will not qualify as a dependent child even if they are under 19 years of age. Also, someone who has a child who is dependent child of a sponsor also will not qualify under this program regardless of their age if they are married.
